To provide an image forming apparatus and image forming method by which a user can intuitively perform the setting of equipment on a network on a setting screen.
This image forming apparatus has a communicating part for communicating with a plurality of pieces of equipment on the network to be connected, display parts 41 and 42 for collecting identification information of the plurality of pieces of equipment on the network via the communicating part and displaying in an image the plurality of pieces of equipment on the network in a tree shape on the basis of the identification information, and a processing part 2 for receiving the user's operation information based on the tree-shaped display of the plurality of pieces of equipment and performing prescribed processing. Then, the user can intuitively understand a network tree structure and easily specify the equipment. By displaying the network in a tree shape together with the plurality of pieces of equipment in an operation screen on a control panel, the user can easily understand a network structure. In addition, this provides a composite type image forming apparatus and image forming method by which the user can intuitively specify an acquisition destination and a transfer destination for image information.
