To solve a problem that no optical fiber cutter is available that is capable of cutting, carrying and handling an optical fiber, and a short optical fiber is likely to be damaged in handling and fusion-splicing a short fiber that is processed to have a lens at the distal end and that is cut short about 30 mm in length.
This is an optical fiber cutter for cutting the core fiber 12 of an optical fiber 1 with a coating at the tip end removed, so as to have a predetermined length. The cutter is provided with a first holder 2 for holding the coating part 11 of the optical fiber 1, a second holder 3 for holding near the tip end of the core fiber 12, and a blade unit 7 for cutting off the optical fiber 1 by moving vertically to the axial direction of the optical fiber 1 between the first and the second holder 2, 3. As a result, the cutter facilitates the handling by operating the short fiber 13 while being clamped by the second holder 3.
