Abstract:
This invention pertains to a method for producing electrode materials for lithium ion batteries comprising pyrolyzing a composition comprising a silicon-containing preceramic polymer to produce a ceramic composition comprising a siliconoxycarbide (SiOC); treating the ceramic composition with a strong acid or a strong base; and thereafter introducing lithium ions into the ceramic material to form an electrode material. Treatment of the ceramic composition reduces the levels of Si and O and increases the surface area and open porosity of the ceramic thus making the ceramic more useful as an electrode material.
