PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device of a structure, wherein the extent of the thinning-out of signal conductors can be further increased than in the conventional thinning-out of the signal conductors in a digital camera, and to provide a signal readout method. SOLUTION: A digital camera is constituted into a structure, wherein signal conductors for applying a transmission pulse, which is fed to each transfer gate 104b of an imaging part 104, that is, six kinds of signal conductors formed by a method, wherein (N-th)+1 row, the (N-th)+5 row and the (N-th)+13 row are connected in common, the (N-th)+3 row, the (N-th)+7 row, the (N-th)+11 row and the (N-th)+15 row are connected in common, the (N-th)+4 row, the (N-th)+8 row, the (N-th)+12 row and the (N-th)+16 row are connected in common, the (N-th)+6 row, the (N-th)+10 row and the (N-th)+14 row are connected in common and the (N-th)+2 row and the (N-th)+9 row are wired respectively independently, are wiring-connected with the transfer gates 104b, corresponding to the signal conductors via electrodes formed between each photodetector 104a and each vertical transmission path 104c, which are provided in the row direction, vertical drive signals are simultaneously fed to the prescribed transfer gates 104b via each signal conductor to lead out signal charges from the photodetectors 104a.
