Abstract:

To provide a method for manufacturing a membrane-catalyst layer assembly enhancing interface adhesion of a catalyst layer and an electrolyte membrane, and ensuring three-dimensional structure of the catalyst layer.

This method for manufacturing the membrane-catalyst layer assembly has a process forming catalyst layers AN, CT by applying a catalyst solution to the surfaces of the catalyst carrier substrates AS, CS; a process predrying the catalyst layers AN, CT to such a degree swelling and softening the interface of the electrolyte membranes Me with an organic solvent left in the transferred catalyst layers AN, CT when the catalyst layers AN, CT are transferred to the electrolyte membrane ME; a process forming the assembly by heating and pressing the catalyst carrier substrates AS, CS and the electrolyte membranes ME, swelling and softening the interface of the electrolyte membrane with catalyst layers AN, CT, and transferring the catalyst layers AN, CT to the electrolyte membrane ME; a process peeling off the catalyst carrying substrates AS, CS from the assembly to form the membrane-catalyst layer assembly; and a process removing the organic solvent left in the catalyst layers AN, CN by drying the membrane-catalyst layer assembly.
