To provide a steering characteristic setting system for an automobile whereby an optimum steering characteristic can be set regardless of the difference of the muscular strength of a driver.
This system is provided with muscle state determination devices 12 and 13 each determining a muscle state of an arm of the driver in an automobile driving state, an optimum steering characteristic calculating device 10 for calculating the optimum steering characteristic for the driver of which the muscle state is determined based on the muscle state determined by the muscle state determination devices 12 and 13, and a steering characteristic changing device 10 for giving the optimum steering characteristic calculated by the optimum steering characteristic calculating device 10 to a steering control unit 50 provided on the automobile 3 of the driver and changing the steering characteristic set in the control unit 50. Therefore, the optimum characteristic is calculated based on the muscle state of the drier, the calculated optimum steering characteristic is transmitted to the steering control unit 50 of the automobile 3 of the driver, and the steering characteristic is changed, and thereby the optimum steering characteristic in accordance with the difference of the muscular strength of the driver can be set.
