Abstract:
To provide an optical module which is high in productivity, inexpensive, and high in coupling efficiency, and its manufacturing method.
When an optical module is manufactured by optically connecting a light emitting element 1 and an optical fiber 2 mounted on a substrate 3a, a groove 3b is formed at a peripheral part of an optical fiber mount position on the substrate 3a and the peripheral part of the mount position is irradiated with laser light to plastically deform the substrate 3a; and then the relative positions of the light emitting element 1 and optical fiber 2 mounted on the substrate are adjusted and the light emitting element 1 and optical fiber 2 are optically coupled with each other.
