A ruler record of ruler name received (b) with a ruler menu from a user is read in, and a ruler window 55 is generated based on the ruler record thus read and displayed on a viewer window 500 (C). On the ruler window 550 displayed here, a ruler 551 is displayed, which shows the scope of the figure of the contents of the data record displayed on the viewer window 500 found based on the scope of each data in the data record preliminarily described in the ruler record thus read according to the format of the data record. The ruler window 550 and the ruler 551 are translucently displayed so that a user can visually recognize the display of the view window 500 under the ruler window 550.
