To display a monitor image according to a frame rate that a photographer desires regardless of external control, even when the operation of an imaging apparatus is externally controlled.
An image signal generating section 11 generates an image signal of a variable frame rate imaged picture. A frame rate conversion section 13 converts the frame rate of the image signal of the variable frame rate imaged picture, to generate a monitor image signal DVf. When communication information RMt, RMu is supplied externally, a control section 20 controls the operations of the image signal generating section 11 and the frame rate conversion section 13. When an instruction on the frame rate of the monitor image signal DVf is issued from an interface section 21, instruction takes precedence over the communication information to control the frame rate conversion section 13, and the monitor image signal DVf with the frame rate is generated by the frame rate conversion section 13, independently of the communication information.
