To provide a wind power generator capable of generating power over a wide range of a wind velocity from breeze where a wind velocity is close to a zero to strong wind exceeding a rated wind velocity.
A frame 3H is disposed radially outside the blades 21H-23H of a horizontal axis wind turbine 1H, permanent magnets 41-43 are provided at radially outer ends of the blades 21H-23H, a plurality of electromagnets M1-M12 are provided oppositely to the permanent magnets 41-43 on the radially inner circumferential surface of the frame 3H, and a means 7 for controlling power supply to the electromagnets M1-M12 is provided. The control means 7 is arranged to supply power such that the electromagnets M1-M12 have polarities repelling the permanent magnets 41-43 when the wind velocity measured by a measuring means 6 or the rotational speed of the blade 2H is lower than a threshold level, and does not supply power to the electromagnets M1-M12 when the wind velocity or the rotational speed of the blade 2H exceeds the threshold level. It is applicable similarly to a vertical axis wind turbine 1V.
