To provide a gateway device and communication connection method in which connection with and disconnection from a DNS name inquiry destination can be substitutingly processed in a gateway device using a DNS protocol that is a general protocol, without requesting the use of a particular protocol for connection to a LAN terminal, and a communicating party and its connection method can be designated from the user who utilizes the LAN terminal, as DNS name inquiry information.
When a DNS name inquiry packet that a LAN terminal has sent is detected, inquiry information contained in the DNS name inquiry packet is analyzed and connection destination information, connecting mode and connection information are detected firstly, an external server address is selected secondly from the detected connection destination information to solve an address of the connection destination information via the external server, and connection processing required for communicating with the solved address is thirdly performed using the detected connecting mode and connection information. The above address is transferred to the transmission source LAN terminal as a DNS name answer packet fourthly, a timer is initiated and in time-out of the timer, when the number of times of transmitting/receiving packets is a fixed value or less, disconnection processing is performed by referring to history information.
