To provide a laser power monitor in which price-reduction of components thereof and improvement in its reliability are realized by using an inexpensive noncontact temperature sensor, and which has essential characteristics required as a laser power meter mounted in a laser knife.
The output monitor comprises a light receiving part which converts the energy of an input laser light to heat, a heat releasing part which is located next to the light receiving part and releases the heat converted in the light receiving part to the outside, and a temperature detecting part which measures the temperature of the light receiving part. The temperature detecting part measures temperature without contacting over an area which does not come into contact with the heat releasing part on the light receiving part and which is larger than the beam diameter of the laser light.
