To provide a data management device and method for contracting a response time to a data inquiry to data stored in a plurality of types of storage mediums by effectively obtaining the storage medium with data stored.
The data of FA equipment 12 is stored sequentially in the plurality of the storage mediums 5, 6, 7. In response to the inquiry from an application 1, desired data stored in either of the storage mediums 5, 6, 7 is transmitted to the application part 1. The device includes: an access command converting means 2 for converting the data inquiry into an access command corresponding to the storage medium with the desired data stored, and transmitting the desired data acquired from the storage medium to the application part 1; and a data location specifying means 3 for specifying the storage medium with the desired data stored on the basis of a unit collection data amount and sampling period from a collection time as parameter of the data inquiry, and notifying to the access command converting means 2.
