To provide a device for setting a parameter for selecting a parameter automatically on equipment side and setting in the equipment only if a user, who has no knowledge about network setting, inserts or removes a memory medium like a memory card into or from the equipment, and to provide a method for setting the parameter and a program.

In a memory card interface 1014 of the device 101, information of an IP address set at another household electric apparatus connected to a network, and information of a network address, are entered from a memory card 210. In an information analyzing unit 1011, an IP address which is not set at another household electric apparatus is selected from addresses included in the network addresses, and the selected IP address is set as setting information 1016 in an information memory unit 1015 by an information reading/writing unit 1012 so that a communication parameter can be set without participation of a user.
