Abstract:

To provide mold flux for continuous casting and a continuous casting method which realize stable continuous casting of steel containing ≥ 0.1 mass% Al and enable the surface quality of a cast slab to be kept satisfactory.

The mold flux is characterized in that, when molten steel is solidified after melting, crystal composition having the maximum precipitating amount is melilite and the basicity is 0.3-1.0, and the concentration of MgO, Al2O3, F and MnO are set to be 5-15 mass%, ≤ 15 mass%, ≤ 5 mass% and 1-10 mass%, respectively.
