To provide a system or a device and a method for providing the new character font and old character font information of a character whose formal typeface is changed due to specification amendment or the like to a user.
An exchange character providing server 20 includes an exchange character database storing part 30 in which character codes and new typeface information and old typeface information are stored so as to be made to correspond to each other for each of characters whose typefaces have been changed; and a means for retrieving an exchange character database storing part 30 with the character code following the reception of a retrieval request, and for returning the corresponding new/old typeface information as exchange candidate character information. A provider terminal 10 includes a means which inputs character information being a key received from a user, and designates the character code, and makes a retrieval request to the exchange character providing server 20; and a means which displays the exchange candidate character information of the retrieval result, and when it is confirmed, makes a printing device print the exchange candidate character information.
