To provide an image forming method for making an electrophotographic image having high image density and excellent reproduction by preventing occurrence of image irregularity based on fog easy to occur by a counter developing method and density lowering of an edge part, and to provide an image forming apparatus.
The image forming method comprises forming an electrostatic latent image on an organic photoreceptor, forming a developing brush by a developer containing toner on a cylindrical developing sleeve, bringing the developing brush into contact with the organic photoreceptor and clearly imaging the electrostatic latent image to a toner image. A surface layer of the organic photoreceptor contains metal oxide particles selected from metals of a third or fourth cycle of a periodic table in which a number average primary particle diameter is 3-150 nm. The image forming method clearly images the electrostatic latent image to the toner image while rotating the developing sleeve in a counter direction to a rotation direction of the organic photoreceptor.
