Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a vacuum pump oil affording high thermal stability and high eventual degree of vacuum along with excellent low-temperature startup effect, and suitable for use in the winter season or cold districts, by using a base oil consisting of a hydrocarbon with a specific molecular weight and having each specific viscosity index and dynamic viscosity. SOLUTION: This vacuum pump oil is obtained by using a base oil consisting of a hydrocarbon >=300 in molecular weight, >=120 in viscosity index and 10-500 mm<2> /s in dynamic viscosity at 40 deg.C. Preferably, this base oil is prepared using a synthetic oil, a poly-α-olefin (specifically, trimer to pentamer of 1-dodecene, or dimer to tetramer of 1l-tetradecene) formed by polymerizing a 10-14C α-olefin, or a mineral oil, so as to adjust the content of hydrocarbons <450 in molecular weight to <=30 wt.% and the molecular weight distribution (weight-average molecular weight/number-average molecular weight) to 1-1.1.
