To provide a method for efficiently forming a functional film containing a radiation-induced surface active catalyst and having an excellent corrosion resistance and an excellent stress corrosion crack resistance.
The functional coating having an anticorrosion effect brought about by drop in corrosion potential induced by exposure to radiation is formed on part of or on the whole of a substrate constituting a metal structure exposed to a radiation atmosphere by exposure to plasma. A multi-electrode plasma convergent thermal spray apparatus having a raw material powder charging port provided in the upstream side of a plasma axis extending in the thermal spray direction and a plurality of thermal spray guns arranged around the axis with an equal interval to cause plasma projected from the thermal spray guns to converge on one point is used for thermal-spraying a ceramic powder having a mean particle size of 1-20 μm.
