To provide a parking assist device and a parking assist method capable of easily guiding a vehicle to a target parking position by indicating relatively wide position where reverse move is started.
This device is for assisting drive operation to stop a vehicle in a zone opposing a parking frame before reversing and parking the vehicle in a predetermined parking frame. The minimum turning trajectory when the vehicle turns at the minimum turning radius is stored in a vehicle minimum turning radius storage part 12 beforehand and an end part position of a parking frame in relation to the vehicle position is detected by an image processing part 11. A first zone establishing part 13 establishes a first reverse start zone from which the vehicle can park in the parking frame by repeat operation of a plural times of reverse movement and forward movement in a zone opposing to the detected parking frame and in a parking frame side of the minimum turning trajectory extending from a roughly center point of a line connecting the end part position of the detected parking frame. A display part 17 displays the same on a monitor 3 to present a driver the same.
