Abstract:
Two filter elements (12, 14) in a casing (10) retain particles of differing size and are separated by a partition (18). This includes a passage (24) connecting the two filter chambers (20, 22) which precede the filter materials (16) in the direction of fluid flow. Preferred Features: The casing includes an inlet and outlet (26, 28) for raw and purified fluid. The coarser filter element (12) is adjacent to and opposite the inlet, the finer similarly disposed, relative to the outlet. The partition plate (38) is sealed to the casing, dividing it into two adjacent chambers (44, 46); the facing filter ends contact it on opposite sides. To connect the filter interiors (48) there is a further penetration (50). The fluid paths through the filters are further detailed. The elements are coaxial, their free ends held in mountings (54). Modular supports (56, 58, 60) hold the filter materials. These can match various lengths of filter element. One passage (24) is formed in a curved segment, the other (50) has a throttle raising the flow resistance through the coarser element. The throttle is a valve (66), closing with preset spring loading towards the other passage (50). There is a bypass valve (76) for the coarser element. At least one filter material (16) has hydrophobic properties. Passages are so designed, that the mainstream volumetric flow through the coarse filter is 8-10 times that of a side stream flowing through the fine filter.
