To provide a steering device of a steer-by-wire type vehicle which turning-controls a steered wheel surely according to an erroneous operation of a connecting means mechanically connecting an operation part and the steered wheel.

A connecting device 30 is equipped with an input shaft 33 and an output shaft 34 which are stored in a housing 31. A gap sensor 44 which detects a displacement amount of the input shaft 33 based on a physical quantity such as eddy current changing accompanied by the displacement of the input shaft 33 is assembled to the connecting device 30. An electronic control unit 45 determines whether or not the connecting device is in a connecting state based on an output voltage Vgap corresponding to the displacement amount of the input shaft 33 outputted from the gap sensor 44. If the connecting device 30 is in the connecting state by the determination, the electronic control unit 45 shuts off the supply of a driving current to a turning actuator 24, and stops an operation of the actuator 24.
