To provide a lithium secondary battery with low resistance inside a battery at a low-temperature state, and with easy conditioning at manufacturing.

The lithium secondary battery is provided with a cathode having a cathode mixture capable of storing and releasing lithium, an anode having an anode mixture capable of storing and releasing lithium, and a nonaqueous system electrolyte. The cathode mixture of the lithium secondary battery contains a carbon material with a specific surface area of 100 m2/g, and the nonaqueous system electrolyte contains at least a kind of compound capable of being decomposed at impression of a voltage of 4.1 V or less and promoting decomposition of water existing in the cathode mixture at the decomposition.
