The method involves determining a profile resistance time representing a revolution rate change in a coupling component related to a frictional characteristic of the transmission, computing a target revolution rate change time(targetdecel, targetaccel) from the profile resistance time and deriving a coupling calibration value from the target revolution rate change time(targetdecel, targetaccel) and the monitored revolution rate of a transmission component.
