To provide an image pickup apparatus properly executing two kinds of camera shake correction for motion and static pictures.
A digital camera 10 includes an image sensor 14, and this captures optical images in a target repeatedly. A motion detecting circuit for motion picture 26 detects the motion of a feature point between a corresponding a target image and a target image immediately before pickup for each of a plurality target images according to a time series outputted from the image sensor 14, and a camera shake correcting circuit for motion picture 22 applies the segment processing based on a detection result to each of the plurality of target images. When a static picture recording operation is executed, a CPU 30 changes the exposure time of the image sensor 14 in a shortening direction, a motion detecting circuit for static picture 28 detects the motion of a feature point between a target image (reference target image) immediately after recording operation and each of three target images subsequent thereto, of the plurality of target images, and a camera shake correcting circuit for static picture 32 adds each of the three target images to the reference target image while displacing them on the basis of a detection result.
