To provide an optical correlator which can carry out correlation detection of high accuracy without requiring relative position relation of highly precise optical systems.
The optical correlator 1 is a Vander-Lugt type which detects correlation between an input pattern and a reference pattern, and includes: a light source 11; an incident optical system 12; a first optical modulation part 21; a second optical modulation part 22; am imaging part 31; and a control part 41. A first modulation pattern exhibited in the first optical modulation part 21 is an input pattern superimposed on a first fresnel lens pattern. The first fresnel lens pattern is for forming Fourier transform image of input pattern in the second optical modulation part 22. The second modulation pattern exhibited in the second optical modulation part 22 is a correlation filter pattern corresponding to a reference pattern superimposed on the second fresnel lens pattern.
