To provide a thin and light-weighted display element.

The display element includes a substrate, a pair of electrodes installed on the substrate, an organic compound layer installed between the pair of the electrodes, an adhesive layer installed on the side opposite to the side where the organic compound layer is installed on the substrate, and a gas barrier film installed on the side opposite to the side where the electrode is installed on the adhesive layer so as to come into contact with the adhesive layer. The gas barrier film has a barrier layer including at least an organic region and an inorganic region, and the adhesive layer and the organic region respectively have a polymer of a cationically polymerizable compound having a radically polymerizable compound and/or an ether group in a functional group as the main component.
