To provide a map display device which predicts the state of congestion at a destination on the basis of user's degree of interest, and which enables a user to easily comprehend the predicted congestion state while looking at a map.
The map display device includes: an extraction means which selects, from a retrieval history storage means, a retrieval object corresponding to retrieval condition included in a received map display request and extracts retrieval history information to the selected retrieval object where the retrieval is carried out within a prescribed past period for prediction determined on the basis of prediction time and date of the congestion state; a counting means for counting the number of times of retrieval for prediction of the retrieval object by performing the counting through weighting the retrieval history information on the basis of weight information associated with retrieval state information included in the extracted retrieval history information; a generating means for generating congestion degree prediction information from the counted number of times of retrieval for prediction; and a display control means for controlling the display so that the generated congestion degree prediction information is displayed at the position of the retrieval object on the map in a prescribed display manner.
