Abstract:
Roll loading workpiece (1) with a core zone (2) and a carbonitrided edge zone (3) surrounding the core zone, where the workpiece is made from a penetration hardened steel and the core zone has a bainite lattice as a main constituent. The edge zone consists of a mixed bainite-martensite lattice where the martensite volume percentage in the edge zone is at least 20 vol.%. The edge zone can contain residual carbide and/or austenite, and/or baininte and/or nitride.
