Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an optical film for which phase difference expression capability is high, that shows excellent reverse wavelength dispersion capabilities and that has little phase difference irregularity and haze, and to provide a circular polarization plate that is equipped with the optical film and that excels in durability, and an image display device that excels in black-color reproducibility and visibility from an oblique direction; the present invention fulfills the foregoing with the optical film below. An optical film that contains at least one type of compound that satisfies formulae (a1, a2), wherein the optical film is characterized by satisfying the following: when phase difference values (Ro) in the in-plane direction of an optical film at wavelengths 450nm and 550nm are Ro (450) and Ro (550), respectively, Ro (450) and Ro (550) satisfy formulae (b1, b2).
