This organic electroluminescent element is manufactured by: forming a first electrode on a substrate with use of a first mask having an opening that has a predetermined shape; forming a light emitting function layer with use of a second mask having an opening that has a larger area than the opening of the first mask; and forming a second electrode with use of a third mask having an opening that has a larger area than the opening of the second mask.
