Abstract:
CONSTITUTION: An image forming apparatus (10) comprises a scanner part (14) that scans a book cover and outputs a cover image. A front cover division part (56) includes a character area detection part (64) that detects a character area from the cover image, a non-character area detection part (66) that detects a non-character area in the cover image by using information on the position of the detected character area, a division position determination part (68) that determines a position to divide the cover image (division position) on the basis of the character area and non-character area, and an image division part (70) that divides the cover image into partial images at the division position. The front cover division part outputs images of the front cover, back cover, backbone, and sleeve from data output part (60) according to the determination from a front cover determination part (58).EFFECT: Since a division position for partial areas is determined on the basis of a cover image, necessary images of portions of a front cover can be reliably obtained without requiring a user's troublesome operation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
