Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to appropriately protect the head and chest of a passenger without significantly increasing the capacity of an air bag and the output of an inflator in a configuration in which a front passenger seat rotates.SOLUTION: An air bag device 10 for a front passenger seat comprises: a seat state detection sensor (detecting means) that detects a state of the front passenger seat 18, which is rotatable; an air bag module 14 provided in the vehicle front of the front passenger seat 18 and in which an air bag 26 intended to be inflated toward the front passenger seat 18 is folded; a drive mechanism 15 that carries out at least one of the movement and rotation, in a vehicle width direction, of the air bag module 14; and a passenger protection control (control means) that sets an inflation area of the air bag 26 to a reference position O, which is in front of the front passenger seat 18, in a case where it is determined on the basis of information of the seat state detection sensor that the front passenger seat 18 faces the vehicle front before a vehicle collision, and sets the inflation area of the air bag 26 further on the seat back 22 side than the reference position O in a case where the front passenger seat 18 faces laterally with respect to the vehicle front.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
