PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately control an output voltage at a time of a light load without decreasing conversion efficiency at a time of a rated load.SOLUTION: A switching power supply device includes: a transformer that has a primary coil and a secondary coil; a switching unit that is connected with the primary coil and switches DC power supplied from a power line to supply electric power to the primary coil; a rectification unit that is connected with the secondary coil and rectifies electric power output by the secondary coil to supply DC power to a load unit; an active resistor connected with the load unit in parallel; a control switch that is connected with the active resistor in series to control whether to enable the active resistor or not; and a controller that conducts the control switch to enable the active resistor when a load current flowing in the load unit is a prescribed current threshold value or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
