PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a touch panel system, a method for controlling a touch panel system, and a program with which a handwriting mode and an erasing mode can be easily and reliably changed.SOLUTION: A determination part causes at least one of a handwriting display part that displays handwriting at a contact position detected by a contact position detection part and an information erasing part that paints over the contact position detected by the contact position detection part with a background color of a touch panel (display screen) to function, on the basis of the distance between a pen or a finger and the touch panel detected by a distance detection part, the contact position of the pen or finger with the touch panel detected by the contact position detection part, and the time during which the pen or finger remains in a predetermined state measured by a timing part (elapsed time measuring part).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
