Abstract:
To provide a smelting method that produces metal by reducing a mixture containing oxide ore such as nickel oxide ore, where the method makes it possible to efficiently recover metal, the produced metal having high quality with less variation in quality.SOLUTION: The present invention provides an oxide ore smelting method in which, a mixture obtained by mixing oxide ore and a carbonaceous reductant is charged into a reduction furnace, and the mixture is subjected to a reduction treatment in the reduction furnace. The reduction furnace 1 has a furnace bed 13 having an opening/closing structure 13. On the furnace bed 13 with the opening/closing structure being closed, the mixture is subjected to the reduction treatment. After the reduction treatment is finished, the resultant material is transferred from the furnace bed by opening the opening/closing structure.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
