Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power-assisted bicycle and a motor drive unit which show an excellent bodywork handling performance even during regenerative operation and can prevent the rotational torque to rotate the pedal from becoming heavier or prevent fluctuations of the rotational torque from being conveyed to the pedal, such as when traveling at high speed.SOLUTION: A motor drive unit 20 comprising a motor 21 is arranged in an intermediate position between the front wheel and the rear wheel and is configured to be transmittable of the rotation of the rear wheel to the motor 21 via the chain. The motor drive unit 20 includes: a passive torque transmission path for transmitting, to the motor, the regenerative passive torque transmitted from the rear wheel to a drive force output wheel body via the chain; and torque transmission switching means for switching the passive torque transmission path between a transmitting state and a non-transmitting state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
