Abstract:
PURPOSE:To produce a quinone compd. corresponding to an arom. compd. at a high selection rate by anodizing the arom. compd. with ceric ions as an oxidation medium in the stage of producing the quinone compd. from the arom. compd. CONSTITUTION:An org. solvent such as toluene contg. the arom. compd. such as naphthalene or anthracene and an aq. solvent of sulfuric acid, etc. contg. ceric ions such as ceric sulfate are put at about half proportion into a reaction column 1 and are thoroughly stirred by a stirrer 2 to induce oxidation reaction. The aq. solvent enriched with cerium ions is supplied from the lower part of the reaction vessel 1 through an extraction column 3 and a stationary column 4 to an electrolytic cell 5 where the solvent is anodized by a lead anode modified by lead peroxide. The aq. soln. enriched with the ceric ions is again circulate to the column 1 and is continuously oxidized, by which the quinone compd. is produced.
