Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0237371
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prepare a stable aqueous emulsion exhibiting an excellent sizing effect when applied on cellulosic textile goods, by emulsifying a rosinous substance in an aqueous medium in the presence of a specified modified polyvinyl alcohol. CONSTITUTION:A rosinous substance is emulsified in an aqueous medium by using, as emulsifier, a modified polyvinyl alcohol having a hydrophobic group consisting of 4C or higher hydrocarbon and an anionic hydrophilic group in the side chain. When the number of carbons contained in the modified polyvinyl alcohol is 3 or less, the emulsion has poor stability and no sufficient effect of modification is obtainable. A branched hydrocarbon group is preferred to a straight-chain hydrocarbon, for the former is often superior to the latter in respect to the particle diameter of the emulsion, formation of coarse particles and stability of the emulsion.
