PURPOSE:To facilitate to prevent the local boiling from occurring by a constitution wherein the water fed in the title water heater ascends while being heated through a water pipe, in which a temperature detector is provided. CONSTITUTION:A feed water pipe 6 is inserted through a first header 1 into a water pipe 3a and has an open feed water port 8a formed by throttling its tip and an feed water port 8b open on its peripheral surface facing to the first header 1. The water pipe 3a and a water pipe 3b, in which a temperature detector 1 is provided, are connected with each other by means of a U-bend 12 in a second header 2. The water 11 fed from the feed water port 8a flows from the tip of the water pipe 3a through the U-bend 12 so as to rise in the water pipe 3b while being heated up to the temperature, which becomes higher as the water approaches the first header 1. As a result, the temperature distribution, in which the forced convection is dominant and which is thermally balanced, is formed in the water pipe 3b at all times. Because the amount of water in the water pipe 3b is small, the temperature change in the water pipe 3b during the ON-OFF operation of a burner 10 is large and severe, resulting in allowing for the temperature detector 9 to quicken the detection of the temperature. Consequently, the extinguishing lag of the burner 10 is reduced, resulting in eliminating the local boiling in the water pipe 3, which tends to occur just after the stopping of hot water supply.
