Abstract:
1α, 3β-dihydroxysteroid-5-ene, an intermediate of 1α-hydroxy vitamin D2 and D3, was prepd. Thus, 1α-hydroxy or 1α, 2α-epoxysteroid-4,6-diene-3-one having immediately removable 6-substitute radical was reduced with alk. metal/liq. NH3 or alk. metal/liq. amin in active org. solvent in the presence of a proton to give 1α, 3β-dihydroxysteroid-5-ene, m. p = 161.5-163.
