Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0358833
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
The ends of a band-saw blade which are to be flash butt-welded are clamped to a fixed jaw 18 and a movable jaw 20 mounted on a common shaft 14. Movable jaw 20 is advanced towards jaw 18 by a lever 40 pivotted at 42 and actuated by pneumatic cylinder 36. The air supply to the cylinder is at low pressure for the initial flash-welding and is increased to higher pressure by actuation of micro-switch 63 for the subsequent upset phase. A damping cylinder 60 acts on the jaw 20 during the initial stage but after the increase in pressure in the cylinder 36 a pin 76 trips a latch 68 and allows arm 64 to swing free under the action of piston-rod 62 to eliminate damping for the upset phase. Hand-lever 70 retracts the jaw 20. Arm 48 of jaw 20 is adjustable by screw 50 engaging track 52 to twist the saw-blade end into precise alignment.
