Abstract:

The character outline is split into blocks each defined by a univalent function involving X as a variable. A number of vectors which extend sequentially along the outline of the character or pictorial image are computed for each block and are so established as to be of the maximum possible length consistent with the requirement of the deviation between each vector. The outline is maintained to be less than a predetermined allowable error. Any outline portion with a vector lenger than a predetermined threshold is treated as a straight line and is encoded by a code adapted for a straight line.
