PURPOSE:To specify the kinds of characters wherein difference in line width occurs and the location of the occurrence readily, by utilizing the same decoding data for the change of each magnification factor belonging to one range, and changing the scanning pitch of a regenerating means at every range in response to each magnification factor. CONSTITUTION:The command magnification factors are grouped by a range selecting part 52. A range data R is outputted from the selecting part 52. The pitch P corresponding to the range R is outputted to a decoding part 54 from a sampling pitch comand part 53. The decoding part 54 samples a profile data from a profile data memory part 55 based on the command pitch P, and outputs the Y coordinate value of the profile at each sampling position. The value is multiplied by a magnification factor alpha in a multiplying part 56, and the multiplied Y value is set in an FIFO 57. A desired bright line is generated on a variable pitch scanning type regenerating means 59, wherein the scanning is executed at a pitch P' based on a bright line ON and OFF signal 63 from a bright line control part 60. The signal 63 is outputted when the present scanning position data from a Y deflection control part 62 is agreed with the multiplied Y value from the FIFO 57.
