PURPOSE:To facilitate the input operation of characters by displaying a cursor consisting of an index indicating the input position of a character and a character frame pattern indicating the size of the input character on a screen at the time of instructing the character input. CONSTITUTION:When an operator instructs the operation mode of character input and the attribute (the size, the color, etc.,) of the input character an interactive processing part 4 identifies them and informs a main processing part 6 of the character input mode and the attribute information of the input character. The main processing part 6 sets attribute information to a current attribute information storage part 8 in accordance with the instruction and waits for the input of a character. A cursor control part 5 holds the address of an index 10a indicating the display position of a cursor 10 during the operation and refers to the current attribute information storage part 8 to recognize the size of the character in attribute information and generates the pattern of the cursor 10, where a character frame pattern 10b and the index 10a are combined, and writes this pattern in the address area of a data storage part 7 corresponding to the display position. Thus, the input operation of characters is facilitated.
