Abstract:
Quinone derivatives represented by general formula (I) wherein R<1> and R<2> may be the same or different, and each represents hydrogen, methyl or methoxy or, when taken together, R<1> and R<2> represent -CH=CH-CH=CH-, R<3> represents hydrogen or methyl, R<4> represents an optionally substituted aromatic or heterocyclic group, R<5> represents methyl, optionally substituted hydroxymethyl, or an optionally esterified or amidated carboxy group, Z represents -C=C-, -CH=CH-, (II) or (III), n represents an integer of 1 to 10, m represents an integer of 0 to 3, and K represents an integer of 0 to 5, provided that, when m represents 2 or 3, Z and k may optionally vary in the repeating unit within [ BD ¨& , are novel and effective in improving metabolism of polybasic unsaturated fatty acids, particularly preventing the production of peroxides of fatty acids (antioxidant effect), or preventing the production of 5-lipoxygenase metabolite, thus being useful as drugs for asthma, anti-allergic agents, brain- and circulatory organ-improving agents, etc.
