Japanese Patent JPS4723671
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1292643 Ethylene/tetrafluoroethylene copolymers EI DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 30 Oct 1969 [19 Nov 1968 28 Aug 1969] 53333/69 Heading C3P [Also in Division B2] A copolymer which has a melt viscosity of at least 5 Î 103 poises at 300‹ C. measured at a shear stress of 0À455 kg./cm.2 and which consists essentially of units derived from 40 to 60 mole per cent of ethylene, 60 to 40 mole per cent of tetrafluoroethylene, both based on the ethylene and tetrafluoroethylene, and a copolymerizable monomer which contains a terminal carboncarbon double bond and which provides the copolymer with side chains which contain at least two carbon atoms and which are free from acidic groups and salts, esters and anhydrides of acidic groups may be prepared by copolymerizing the monomers in appropriate proportions in a chlorofluorohydrocarbon solvent at a temperature of 30‹ to 85‹ C. in the presence of a polymerization initiator. In the examples ethylene, tetrafluoroethylene, perfluoropropyl perfluorovinyl ether, perfluoroethyl perfluorovinyl ether, perfluoroheptene-1, perfluorobutene-1, hexafluoropropene, perfluoro(methyl vinyl ether), isobutylene, vinyl acetate, 1,1,1- trifluoro - 2 - (trifluoromethyl) - 4 - penten - 2- ol, alkyl heptafluoroisopropyl ether, 2,2,3,3,3- pentafluoropropyl trifluorovinyl ether and nbutyl trifluorovinyl ether are copolymerized in the presence of 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane, cyclohexane and bisperfluoropropionyl peroxide. In Example X the terpolymer is melt blended with glass fibres which have been treated with gamma amino-propyl triethoxy silane coupling agent.
