Abstract:
A lubricant comprises a major proportion of a mineral oil, 0.1-10 wt. per cent methacrylate polymer, 0.5-10% metal salt of a salicylic acid and 0.1-10% of the reaction product of (1) a polyamine of general formula where R1 and R2 are C2-C7 alkylene or alkyl substituted alkylene radicals, R3 and R4 are hydrogen, C1-C7 alkyl or amino substituted alkyl radicals, e.g. alkylene diamine or polyalkylene polyamine substituted alkyl, and n is 0-5 and (2) a C30-C200 aliphatic hydrocarbyl substituted succinic acid or anhydride. The methacrylate polymer may be a mixture of polyesters of methacrylic acid with C14-C18 and C4 alcohols. The salicylic acid is preferably a C12-C22 alkyl or dialkyl acid and the salt is preferably a basic calcium salt. The composition may also contain a zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate.
