Abstract:
1,273,637. Container-holding jigs or packaging machines. INTERNATIONAL INPAK Inc. 24 July, 1969 [1 Aug., 1968], No. 37356/69. Heading B8C. In a packaging machine, containers are carried through filling and closing stations by jigs 20 having a body 50 and a hinged cover 52 held in its closed position by a resilient strip 70 which has a lip 68 for engaging over a ledge 66 on the cover 52. The body 50 and the cover 52 are hinged together by a torsion bar 54 which biases the cover 52 to its open position. The resilient strip 70 is divided into latching portions 74 by notches 72 so that, during closing of the cover 32, an inclined cover-surface engages a latching portion 74 and urges it away from the ledge 66 to permit the latter to snap under the lip 68. The jigs 20 are fed along a back guide 22 and supplied with flat container-blanks 9 at a station 36, the blanks 9 having a solid portion 10 which nests against the cover 52 and is connected to an apertured portion 12 which nests on the body 50. The jigs are then fed to a front guide 24 where the apertured blank-portion 12 passes beneath a web 16 of wrapping material fed from a roll 38. Then the jigs are intermittently advanced through a station 40 at which the web 16 is heated and pressed into the body 50, a filling station 42, and a sealing station 44, the cover 52 being closed between the stations 42, 44 so that the solid blank-portion 10 is folded on to the apertured blank-portion 12. On leaving the sealing station 44, the cover 52 springs open to enable the completed package to be removed from the jig 20, which is then returned to the back guide 22 by a mechanism 46. Alternatively, the jig-body 50 carries a preformed box and the cover 52 carries a lid therefor.
