Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS4827004
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1400174 The production of non-woven fabrics INTERNATIONAL PAPER CO 13 July 1972 [21 July 1971] 32925/72 Heading D2A Apparatus for producing non-woven fabrics comprises a headbox 2 having an inclined discharge opening part which extends a Fourdrinier wire 18, and a suction box 34 below the wire and including compartments 36a to 36j in each of which is a baffle 62 extending substantially the width of the discharge opening, the arrangmemt being such that the baffle restricts the flow of liquid through the compartment to produce over the width of the wire a substantially uniform pressure differential and so uniform flow of water through the wire. Each compartment 36 has a discharge pipe 40 connected through a control valve to a barometric drop leg. The uppermost compartments, e.g. 36h to j are each also individually connected to a vacuum pump to allow for variation in the level of the stock in the head box. The suction box 34 has a cover 42 carrying foils 44 with replaceable tips 46 of plastics material, e.g. polyethylene, and it has a bottom which slopes transversely of the wire. Each baffle 62 is T-shaped in cross-section with one end of its top flange preferably rounded and bevelled, Figs 3 and 6 (not shown), and it is supported at that end on a pad engaging the bottom of the box, the pad being secured against sideways movement of the baffle by strips welded on the bottom, Fig 2 (not shown). Members 80 align the baffle in the suction box compartment. The baffles are preferably of metal but may be of plastics material or wood, and each may be adjustable in length and in width the adjustment in length premitting production of a fabric with thick or thin edges. In an alternative construction each baffle may have one or more slots in its top flange with the side edges of the flange abutting the side walls of the suction box compartment.
